Your CREW is not just a group of people, but a collective force that cheers you on, inspires you, and acts as a resource when you need assistance. It’s a network of personal or professional connections, including mentors, leaders, employees, coaches, life and business partners, and other notable figures you admire from afar. Reflect on the strength and completeness of your external Crew, as it plays a significant role in your personal and professional success. 

Further, how clearly defined are your Client WOW experiences (for more context, see Chapter 4: Super Leadership, Customer Life Cycle in my book, Every Day Is Friday ACTT Blueprint For Leaders & Entrepreneurs)? 

Why talk about CREW?  

We feel burnt out, overwhelmed, and lonely when we don’t have a good CREW. Most importantly, we are not our best selves. From a business perspective, it’s no longer good enough to focus on understanding the stages of team development – forming, norming, storming, performing, and adjourning. Especially with hybrid and virtual environments, distinguishing between a team and CREW is more important than ever as they co-create an alliance to share 100% responsibility for success.   

Leadership Lessons from Home to Workplace 

Think back to your earliest encounter with leadership. For most of us, it was with a biological mother. Those initial experiences shape our understanding of leadership dynamics. Think about how you grew up. What do you want to take with you into your workplace culture? What do you want to leave behind? 

While my journey spans various sectors, from blue-chip corporations to startups, what remains constant is the need for empowered (not power over – power WITH) leadership. For example, There’s a crucial element in both healthy homes and organizations: space for feelings. Just as children thrive when given room to feel, employees in thriving workplaces benefit from the same. 

The Journey of Self-Leadership 

How do we start? Look within. The most profound culture is internal: how we treat ourselves. Recognition programs and flexible policies are crucial, but authentic leadership begins with self-trust and appreciation. It’s about investing in our own growth and development. 

I think about how many years I confused my work with my worth, and as time goes on, I realize that authentic leadership isn’t just about external validation; it’s about trusting our Wisdom Within.  

 In the journey of leadership, let’s remember to nurture not just our teams but, most importantly, ourselves, fostering a culture of empathy, resilience, and self-trust as we give from the overflow.
