A New Kind Of Leadership
This marks a wonderful beginning to 2024!
As we approach the end of January 2024, let’s continue to challenge the status quo and be the trailblazers we were born to be.
Leadership is about venturing into uncharted territories, standing for the good we see in others (even if they are fighting to go backward), and speaking our vision even when some consider us idealistic or unreasonable.
It’s time to break from the past. Instead of reacting to the challenges of yesterday, what if we pave the way by sharing our vision or our intended outcomes more clearly and consistently? What if, this year, we commit to having more conversations with those who understand us (or at least with those who want to understand us) so that our vision can truly become reality?
So, what does it take?
It takes courage. First, we need the courage to lead the uncertain part within ourselves (self-leadership). Secondly, we need the courage to think outside the box even if our ideas are misunderstood or rejected, and finally, it takes courage to believe that when there is conflict, it is simply a sign that something greater wants to happen.
Here are a few keys to support you with communicating your vision.
- Take time to intuitively sense opportunities in our environment.
- Inspire others beyond limitations to more significant outcomes.
- Simplify complex situations.
- Conduct a vigorous exchange of ideas inside and outside of the organization.
Leaders go first. So, tell me, leader…
- What is your ideal vision for 2024, personally and professionally?
- What challenges within yourself and outside yourself do you foresee?
- On a scale from 1-7 (7 is the highest), how committed are you to doing what you can so that your vision becomes reality?
- What is your timeline to get this going?
If you are ready to dive in further, here are a few ways to strengthen your visionary leadership skills:
- Make time for your vision – this can be as simple as ensuring every meeting you attend has an intended outcome.
- Recognize vision as a matter of not just style but substance. It’s not about meaningless vision statements – it’s about building your strategic acumen.
- Resist the urge to stay in the weeds.
- Leverage (or build) a supportive network (crew).
- Have visual representations of your vision.
This year let’s dare to dream differently. Let’s dare to lead differently.
